The view
Panoramic views around Hohrodberg
Hohrodberg sits at about 800 metres on the southern slope of the High Vosges — and you notice it in the view. To the south the Munster valley opens up; to the east you look across the Rhine plain to the Black Forest. When the air is clear, you can make out the Swiss Alps on the horizon from the terrace.
The view is at its most striking in the morning. When the haze lifts from the valley and the mountains all around stand out sharply, the day begins with a sight others travel a long way for. From the garden, coffee in hand.
The view to the south-west takes in the full breadth of the Munster valley — the green ribbon of the valley, flanked by wooded slopes, opens out to the east towards Colmar and the Rhine plain. In the evening light the valley turns warm and deep gold.
Best visibility: early in the morning after a clear night, or just after a shower. When the foehn wind blows, you can see from the Alpine peaks to the Black Forest. Binoculars recommended.
