Lac Blanc

Lac Blanc

A mountain lake at 1,079 metres

Lac Blanc is one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the Vosges, lying at 1,079 metres not far from the Col de la Schlucht. The way there leads through dense fir forest and along open ridge paths — with wide views over the Rhine valley and, on a clear day, as far as the Swiss Alps.

The circular walk from the Blanc Neige car park takes about three hours and suits sure-footed walkers of any age. In summer the Vosges ridge is reflected in the dark green water; in autumn the woods around the shore glow in every shade.

If you have a little more time, carry on up to Lac Noir — a quiet, little-visited sister lake just a few minutes’ walk away. On the way back, a detour to the summit of the Kastelberg is well worth it, with views all round over the whole of the Vosges.

Getting there: ~20 min by car to the Blanc Neige car park. In summer, set off early — the lake is popular. Sturdy footwear recommended, as the path is stony in places.
